This course is designed to give a basic overview to the craft of directing and the role of the director in both documentary and dramatic filmmaking. A two-hour lecture/workshop devoted to basic film theory and directorial technique, preparation for a shoot, the components of a crew, communications with the crew, blocking shots, and basic film aesthetics. The Director I course prepares students for the next semester's dramatic productions and is continued in Director II.
