Peer tutoring is available to all current Durham College students, subject to tutor availability.
Peer tutors help students review and practice previously taught course content and offer study tips to promote ongoing learning.
Peer tutoring appointments are booked through WC Online and begin in Week 3.

Peer tutors are upper-year students hired and trained by SALS to provide support in specific courses or subject matter. Your peer tutor will help strengthen your understanding of the course content.
There is no cost to access peer tutoring or any of SALS academic support.
Students are eligible for 2 hours per week of peer tutoring.
Determine where there are gaps in your understanding or where you need additional direction and guidance. Upload relevant course material and questions in the WC Online appointment booking.
- Peer tutors are student peers who help other students review and understand course material.
- Learning Specialists are subject-matter experts supporting students in specific subjects (Accounting, Biology Chemistry, Math, Physics and Writing) within their programs. Learning Specialists also teach students learning strategies to help them achieve success.
I WANT TO BE A PEER TUTOR
Refer to the information below to learn about the qualifications and responsibilities of a peer tutor.
Peer tutors must meet the following requirements:
- Be a full-time student enrolled in the current semester at Durham College
- Have achieved a GPA of 3.5 or greater and a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.5
- Must be in second semester or higher of your program
- Be available to work 4 to 12 hours per week throughout the semester
Yes, to become a peer tutor, students who are selected will have in person and online training
- Have an excellent understanding of the course content and concepts in their academic program
- Provide guidance and instruction on previously taught course content to help promote independent and ongoing learning
- Possess good interpersonal skills and be able to explain course material clearly
- Be punctual for scheduled tutor appointments
- Follow the policies and procedures for Student Academic Learning Services (SALS)
- Adhere to the academic integrity and confidentiality agreements set by the college
- Submit required documentation such as payroll timesheets every two weeks
Peer tutors are paid $19.79 per hour. A financial aid application must be completed prior to hiring.
A peer tutor may work up to a maximum of 12 hours per week. We ask for an availability of a minimum of 4 hours. However, hours are dependent upon the needs of the students receiving tutoring.
