Durham College (DC) is a military-connected college (MCC) that recognizes the unique experiences, skills and sacrifices of learners with ties to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). Military-connected learners bring discipline, leadership and valuable lived experience to our community. We recognize that members of the CAF, Veterans, Reservists and military families may navigate service commitments, deployments, postings, family responsibilities, identity transitions, prior learning recognition and the lasting impacts of military service while pursuing their education. We are committed to helping you transition smoothly into college life, achieve your academic goals and move forward with confidence in your civilian career, or continue your education while serving. Whether you are currently serving, a Veteran, a Reservist or a family member of someone who has served, you belong at Durham College. Durham College recognizes relevant military training and experience through Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR). This process allows students to receive academic credit for demonstrated knowledge and skills gained outside the classroom. In addition, credits earned at accredited post-secondary institutions may be eligible for transfer credit, depending on course equivalency and program alignment. Students who have completed applicable military development periods may also be eligible for recognition. As part of the assessment process, students may be required to submit supporting documentation, such as transcripts, training records or certification details, to demonstrate how prior learning aligns with program outcomes. For more information, please visit Transfer Services. An associated fee may apply. Can I combine my military experience and credits earned at another post-secondary institution for recognition at Durham College? Yes. Students may be eligible to combine transfer credits (for post-secondary coursework) and PLAR (for military and professional experience). Eligibility depends on how closely previous learning aligns with the requirements of the chosen Durham College program. I hold a nationally recognized certification from my military occupation. Can I receive credit toward a Durham College program? Yes. Durham College considers nationally recognized certifications, including those earned through military service, for potential academic credit. This may include official correspondence from a Commanding Officer or delegated authority outlining the reason for the absence and the expected duration of time away.
