DRT has moved to the PRESTO UPASS, a new digital transit pass for full-time students. This digital transit pass is replacing the PRESTO eTickets App and works with Apple and Google Wallet, letting you tap your phone or PRESTO card for easy access to DRT buses and terminals. ATTENTION: Phones purchased outside of North America OR phones that do NOT have NFC (paying with tap) will not work with the new Presto digital card system. Please see the drop-down menu below for instructions on how to obtain your UPASS if this is the case. The UPASS program provides students with unlimited travel each semester on Durham Region Transit (DRT). A DRT UPASS is available to student registered in a full-time post-secondary program. UPASS does not have an opt out option as all full-time students pay ancillary fees to enable access to services at a lower cost than would be possible on an individual basis. Changes to Durham Region Transit Route 920 and 921 DOWNLOAD THE PRESTO APP ** If you do NOT see the Presto app in app store, please ensure your region is set to Canada. ** Access your U-PASS Please note for use in the digital wallet, your device requires NFC/Tap proximity capabilities. Your voucher code can only be redeemed once. Android devices purchased outside North America may not NFC/Tap capabilities or may need them enabled. For NFC/Tap Capable Phones: Step 1: Download the PRESTO app To do this, download the PRESTO app. This is not the PRESTO e-ticket app that was used before. Step 2: Get your digital PRESTO card Choosing “Add Card” to buy the digital card and choose PRESTO Google/Apple wallet. The digital card is free but a minimum amount of funds needs to be added to activate the card. Step 3: Load/Activate your card Choose “Load Funds” and type in $0.05 (you can do more but it is not necessary for this process). After the purchase, it will prompt you to add it to the Google/Apple Wallet, please do that. There will be an ‘Add Your Voucher’ button. Choose that and enter your voucher code that was sent to you on DCMail email address. Choose next and done to complete. Your UPass will be active within the hour. If it is not and you lose your card, you will lose complete access to your UPass. Your voucher code can only be used once. If you do not have a phone with NFC/Tap capabilities, you will be required to use a physical PRESTO Card. This is not provided by the college. Step 0: Purchase a physical PRESTO Card This can be done at a Shopper’s Drug Mart or PRESTO Card retailer Once purchased it is not yet activated, please call the number on the back of the card to request immediate activation. Step 1: Register your Physical PRESTO Card Create or sign into your presto account at https://www.prestocard.ca/en/sign-in Register your Presto card to your account If your card is lost and has been registered, PRESTO can assist you in replacing your card and any funds or passes you have on it Once signed in, there will be the option to redeem the voucher beneath the Presto card displayed. Click ‘Redeem Voucher’. Once you’ve entered the voucher code and the UPASS is loaded, you’ll get an email notifying that your UPass will take 4-7 hours to become active. Universal Transit Pass (UPass) is the name of the bus pass that eligible full-time students use to access all DRT services. It is also titled ‘DRT UPASS'. UPass is a general transit pass that provides eligible, full-time students with unlimited travel each semester on Durham Region Transit (DRT) only. How do I access my digital UPASS? The UPass is offered digitally or physically if your device does not have NFC or was purchased outside North America. Your UPass is distributed to eligible full-time students at the beginning of each semester through DCMail with instructions on how to add it to your Digital Wallet. When can I start using my UPASS? UPass will be available based on the term that you have registered for: Fall – September 1 – December 31 Winter – January 1 – April 30 Spring/Summer – May 1 – August 31 I don’t have NFC/Tap or I have an Android device purchased outside of North America If you do not have NFC or purchased an Android device outside North America, you must use a physical Presto card. You can use a pre-existing card that is registered or purchase your own Presto card. Apple iPhones with iOS greater than 16.4 are NFC/Tap capable, even if they are purchased outside of North America. Voucher codes can be used on the Presto website when signing in through your browser. https://www.prestocard.ca/en/sign-in I haven’t received my voucher code. Your voucher code will be sent to your DCMail in the week prior to your semester start date or after your registration is finalized. If you are a late registrant or have not yet paid your tuition fees (applicable only to non-OSAP students) your voucher code will be sent within one to two business days once finalized. What if I change/lose my device with my UPASS on it? If you switch devices, log into the PRESTO app on your new device to add your digital UPass to Apple or Google Wallet. It can only be active on one device at a time and will be removed from the previous one. What if I am not eligible for the UPASS? UPass is given to eligible full time students for each semester they are enrolled in a full time course load. UPass does not have an opt out option as all full-time students pay ancillary fees to enable access to services at a lower cost than would be possible on an individual basis. If you are not eligible for UPass you can purchase a daily, weekly, or monthly transit pass directly from DRT. Why isn’t my UPASS working on my device? The UPass in Google Wallet will only work on devices with NFC that are purchased within North America. All Apple products with iOS 16.4 or higher are compatible with NFC. If your region is incorrectly set to outside of Canada this can also cause issues. Region settings can be changed within the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Please note that not all issues can be addressed within the Durham College UPASS Office, as the UPASS is a Durham Region Transit and PRESTO product. Please ensure NFC is turned on for your device when you attempt to scan it or try unlocking your phone. If the scanner states ‘Too Many Cards Detected’ remove your phone from the Presto scanner and try again after three seconds. I lost my registered physical Presto card. What do I do? If you have lost your physical Presto card that is registered to a Presto account, you can contact Presto Customer Care at 1-877-378-6123 or on their website. Presto will be able to transfer your UPass and any funds on your physical Presto card to a new card that you will need to purchase. Presto Cards are available at Shoppers Drug Mart or any Presto retailers. If you have lost your physical Presto card and it was not registered to a Presto account, regrettably this falls outside of what Durham College can support.
