This course makes a study of the theory and applications of various measuring devices and systems and how they are applied to industrial quality assurance. Building on topics from MEAS 4132 (standards, definitions, principles of measurement, amplifying devices, sources of error, angle measurement, coordinate measuring machines) the main topics covered are: operation and programming of coordinate measuring machines (including CNC types), GD&T for inspection, optical tooling and machine tool metrology, thread measurement, kinematic design of instruments, in-process gauging, comparator systems, form and surface assessment, measurement planning, and digital measurement systems. The theory is supplemented by lab work.
