This course examines the roles and objectives of musicians, songwriters, publishers, industry organizations, associations, and users/consumers of music, relevant to the copyright law that governs and protects each in Canada and abroad. We focus on intellectual property, the evolution of copyright law and its reform, copyright protection and infringement, music licensing and administration organizations, and trademarking, all considered core components in today's ever-changing music industry.
