This course is designed to familiarize students with the concepts and details of the Ontario Building Code (OBC). Students study the use of the objective-based code format used in the National Building Code and the OBC. The course focuses on the functionality of OBC Act and differences between its two main parts. The classification of buildings based on size, height and occupancy are studied as specified in Part 9 and Part 3. Building system requirements for new construction will be reviewed along with the change of use and renovation objectives for existing buildings. The OHSA is discussed from the perspectives of employer obligations and personal safety.
