Course and Program Admission

Course Admission

Course applicants must have either an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), a General Education Development (GED), or be a mature student (at least 19 years of age) unless otherwise noted on the course page.

Some courses require applicants to meet specific criteria and are noted in the detailed course description found on the website.

Program Admission

Durham College offers a wide-range of part-time programming – our Recognition of Achievement certificates (ROA), Durham College Certificates, Ontario College Certificates and Ontario College Diploma programs.

The minimum admission requirement for our programs is one of the following:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.
  • Mature student status (19 years of age or older). Mature students lacking specific requirements may have to complete academic upgrading.

We also offer Ontario Graduate Certificates which require previous post-secondary education.

Admissions Application Forms

Currently, ROA and DC Certificates do not require you to complete an admissions application form. You may begin taking courses, and work towards completion of the program. We will assist you in tracking your progress to ensure you meet all graduation requirements.

All Ontario level credentialed programs require students to complete an admissions form prior to taking any courses related to the program. Once submitted, Durham College will determine if the student meets the requirements to enter the program. The admission requirements for each program are listed in detail in the program description section of the website. It is the responsibility of each applicant to complete these requirements as part of the admission process.

Program Completion Timelines

Recognition of Achievement programs and Durham College Certificate programs must be completed within five years.

Ontario level Certificate, Diploma, Graduate Certificate and Advanced Diploma programs will list completion timelines on each program description page found on the website.

You must adhere to the GPA system and have a 2.0 GPA in order to graduate.

Durham College reserves the right to alter the program requirements in order to remain current and relevant with regard to business/industry standards and to better serve students.

Cancellation of a course or program

Durham College reserves the right to cancel any course or program with insufficient enrolment or any program where employment opportunities do not appear adequate to justify the number of students graduating. Prior to a decision to suspend or phase out a program, Durham College will give students an opportunity to complete the program.

However, there may be special circumstances where this is not possible or where a transfer of the students to another college would be more practical for all parties. Under such circumstances, Durham College will assist students to enrol in the same program offered by another college located a reasonable distance from Durham College.
