Populations and Diversity

This course increases the dental hygiene student's knowledge and comfort with delivery of dental hygiene care with diverse client populations. The course will help the student adapt management skills and customize the process of care to meet the client's needs. In addition, the importance of collaboration with other health care providers to support quality of care will be discussed. The course will examine cultural competence and humility in order to develop skills in cultural safety, diversity, equity and inclusion. Students will learn how to adapt modalities of dental hygiene care and advocate for the diverse populations which include exceptionalities, pediatrics, geriatrics and those who experience family violence.
