Health & Healing/Professional Practice III

The theoretical component of the course is focused on the therapeutic role of the practical nurse within the domains of community and mental health nursing. Using a Watson's caring framework, students learn to apply theoretical concepts related to both mental health and community health care across the life span. Emphasis is placed on therapeutic nursing strategies utilized in primary, secondary or tertiary health care and when interacting with individuals with mental health challenges. Students will explore/examine how nursing approaches and advocacy supports the clients (Individuals, families and groups) giving consideration to the public health system, determinants of health, diverse populations, legal, ethical and diversity and ethical approaches that support health promotion and harm reduction.
