DC faculty wins visual arts award

Susan Campbell, faculty, School of Media, Art & Design, recently won first place at the Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM) 35th Annual Juried Show of Fine Arts at the show’s opening reception and awards ceremony on January 17.

She received the honour for her submission titled Open House Interventions, which was “chosen for its conceptual nature as an invention or intervention of urban space and overall composition.” Campbell’s work was chosen from 248 submissions from working artists across Ontario.

“This was the first time that photographic work was included in the show, so I feel honoured to be chosen from so many entries,” said Campbell. “I look for ways that drawing can wander off the page and into the environment, and I document this process. As an artist you just have to keep making and making, so it’s great when your work is endorsed in this way.”

The VAM is recognized as one of the region’s most anticipated visual arts events and is held at the Art Gallery of Mississauga from January 17 to Saturday, March 2.

Campbell teaches the Drawing for Design course in the Digital Photography and Digital Video Production programs.
