Practical Nursing Requirements

Admission to this program is highly competitive for international applicants. This means that there are more qualified international applicants than available seats. As a result, qualified applicants will be ranked based on admission requirement grades submitted. The specific average required for admission may vary for each intake, and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance. Preference will be given to applicants with the highest qualifications.

For the past several years, minimum grades for the admission requirements have consistently been at 85 per cent or higher to receive an offer to the Practical Nursing program.  Therefore, we strongly advise applicants to apply only if they meet or exceed  85 per cent for the following admission requirements.

AND

  • Grade 12 English (C or U) (English Speaking Countries only); or
IELTS Academic minimum 7.0 overall bands with no band less than 6.5; or
TOEFL 94, with no section score less than 23
  • Grade 12 Mathematics (C, M or U)
  • Grade 11 or 12 Biology (C, M or U)
  • Grade 11 or 12 Chemistry (C, M or U)

    Previous cut offs: May 2024 (86.5), January 2024 (88.25)

    * For applicants who submit transcripts with grading systems that are not percentage based, we will look for the highest score obtainable to meet the cut-offs. For example: WAEC grade A1, CSEC/CAPE grade 1, KCSE grade A, UCE grade 1, A Level grade A/A*, O Level grade A*/8 or 9.

Applicants who hold a degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution can receive quality points (grade weighting) added to their subject admission requirements based on their final grades, given the higher education level. Quality Points applied will be 1.15.

For applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements listed above or are missing admission requirement subjects, we strongly advise applying to one of our Pre-Health Science programs: www.durhamcollege.ca/phsc or www.durhamcollege.ca/phsu. After completing this two-semester program, you can be considered for admission to the Practical Nursing program. Please note that meeting the minimum requirements from one of the Pre-Health programs does not guarantee acceptance to the Practical Nursing program.
