A Creative Place to Grow!

Durham College’s Continuing Education Summer Camp Program focuses on providing fun, innovative and stimulating programs that will provide your children with life-long memories and skills. For many of our campers these camps provide a chance for them to let their creativity shine.

Art Camp

Campers will create inspired pieces, paint to music, sculpt with found objects and explore a variety of techniques and mediums in art making. Skills to create depth, texture and expression will be developed through fun and interactive activities. A range of projects will be completed to allow students to explore their artistic talents. Campers will create a portfolio of their projects to show off to family and friends!

At the end of the week, you will participate in an art show to showcase your creations!

Campers must bring the following to camp each day: Hat, sunscreen, water bottle and a nut free snack.

Cooking Camp

Make this summer sizzle at Durham College! Learn what it takes to make mealtime magic. Come cook with us and make tasty midday meals, and sweet treats to take home and share. We have the ingredients, you bring the imagination! At the end of the week, invite your family and friends to sample your creations and show off your culinary masterpieces.

Parents, please note: We will be working in a kitchen where allergens such as nuts, dairy, soy, shellfish and gluten are regularly used. If your child has severe food allergies, please be aware that we cannot guarantee zero contact with allergens.

This camp will be held at Durham College’s W. Galen Weston Centre for Food, Whitby campus.

Glee Camp

Do you LOVE Singing and Dancing? If so, Glee Camp is for you! Learn audition skills, acting, voice, music theory, movement, dance and technical performance elements, all culminating in a showcase production that features songs of musical theatre, classics of the decades and today’s hottest songs!

Mad Science ™ Camp

EUREKA!

Welcome to the world of inventions! Children will be challenged to overcome a series of daily tasks by using their brains, brawn, tips from famous inventors, cool equipment and simple machines. They’ll create catapults and forts, design their own light sabers, and assemble a set of circuits using batteries and light bulbs. While Thomas Edison said invention is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration, this camp is 100% FUN! Each day is unique but they are all designed to be fun, exciting and hands-on.

Camp-Day Themes include: Shipwrecked, Whiz Kids, Rock-Paper-Scissors, Think Fast, Science Fiction

FLIGHT ACADEMY

The week will fly by as we travel through time looking at the earliest flying machines right up to modern day rocket launches. We’ll cover it all. Become a Junior Aviator and discover the principals of flight and aerodynamics. Zip up your space suit for a planetary tour while we investigate the wonders of our very own Milky Way. Join your fellow astronauts as we send an awesome Mad Science rocket to the moon…well at least into the sky! As Mad Science Technicians, you will build sundials, Skyblazer rockets and parachutes and test your designs in our incredible wind tunnel simulator. It will be a blast!

Camp-Day Themes include: The “Wright” Stuff, It’s an Up Thing, The Milky Way, Newton’s Loco-Motion and Rockin’ Rockets.

Photography Camp

This fun filled camp will teach campers the basics of photography and show them how to properly use their cameras.

Campers will learn ways to shoot different subjects including nature, action, landscape and people. Some time each day will be spent in the computer lab where we will show you how to prepare your pictures for printing. By the end of the week, you will have some of your best images printed to bring home.

This camp is suitable for both point and shoot, and digital SLR cameras.

Be sure to bring your camera with fully charged batteries, extra batteries and/or battery charger, cables for connecting the camera to the computer, and a blank memory card.

Campers must bring the following to camp each day: Hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, proper footwear, a water bottle, and a nut free snack.

A jump drive will be supplied.

Sewing Camp

Are you ready to express your creativity? Then this is the camp for you!

Learn how to use a sewing machine, follow instructions, and use basic sewing tools to create your very own pillow, tote bag and other small sewing projects. Basic sewing skills including single needle and zig-zag stitching, seam construction and finishing techniques will be taught.

At the end of the week, you will participate in a “Fashion Show” to show off your creative designs!
Sewing machines will be provided. No previous sewing experience is required.

Campers must bring the following to camp each day: Hat, sunscreen, water bottle and a nut free snack.
