College faculty reach tentative agreement
August 29, 2012
Please be advised that Durham College students, and those at all Ontario colleges, will not experience any interruption to their classes this fall with a tentative agreement, subject to ratification, reached this morning in college faculty negotiations between the College Employer Council and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union.
All post-secondary, apprenticeship and continuing education classes taught at Durham College’s Oshawa and Whitby campuses and Pickering and Uxbridge learning sites will continue to run as usual.
Durham College is committed to our mission statement that the student experience comes first and we look forward to the start of the 2012-2013 academic year.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR DC STUDENTS REGARDING POSSIBLE FULL-TIME FACULTY STRIKE
August 22, 2012
The start of the 2012-2013 academic year is right around the corner and incoming Durham College students (new and returning) may be hearing reports in the media about a possible full-time faculty strike that could impact studies this fall.
Students may be aware that full-time faculty at all 24 Ontario colleges are governed by a collective agreement between the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) and the College Employer Council (the Council). This agreement is set to expire on Friday, August 31 with a strike vote scheduled to take place on Monday, September 10.
Despite this planned vote, please be aware that discussions at the bargaining table are scheduled to continue including the appointment of a conciliator, which is a mediator between both sides who is helping to advance the negotiations and working with the parties to address outstanding issues as they negotiate. Durham College remains hopeful that an agreement will be reached in a timely manner.
Until then, strike contingency planning is underway with student success as the main focus. Durham College is committed to keeping you up to date on the status of the bargaining process via the college website. For specific information related to the bargaining process, please visit the Council’s website.
