Career Launch – your passport to success Whether you’re a first-year student or a recent graduate, Career Launch is designed to help you develop the confidence to smoothly transition from the classroom to the workplace. From January to March each year, Durham College (DC) hosts events and workshops at both the Oshawa and Whitby campuses to provide current students and alumni with opportunities for professional development. These activities complement classroom learning, help develop networking, leadership skills and personal marketing tools, and enhance essential employability skills. The Career Launch program is organized by Career Development, Student Development, International Education and the Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations. ESSENTIAL EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS Did you know that essential employability skills are the most required skills in the workplace? Many employers report that candidates lack some of these skills, which negatively impacts their organizations. These skills are essential for individuals and organizations as they can increase productivity, engagement, and job satisfaction. During this workshop, you will learn strategies to develop and showcase these skills and connect what you learn in the classroom to today’s workforce. Participants can expect to come away from this workshop with the ability to demonstrate these skills professionally and enhance their ability to secure and maintain employment and progress through their careers. INTERNATIONAL ALUMNI TALKS This annual event, as part of the GISE program, starts with a panel of international alumni sharing their experience graduating from DC and landing a job in Canada. Following the panel presentation, students will be able to share their professional backgrounds and career goals with leaders in their fields (alumni, business experts, recruiters, and employers) through speed networking.
