PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS FOR REAL-WORLD PROBLEMS

The Office of Research Services and Innovation supports the college’s applied research agenda by responding to business and industry needs for research and providing real-world experiences for students, guided by our Strategic Research Plan. [PDF - 1 MB]

Our role is to provide practical solutions for business and industry through applied research and knowledge transfer activities.  In partnership with community partners, we conduct projects that model or simulate solutions, develop and test prototypes, adopt new technologies and knowledge, and develop and evaluate new or improved products, processes, or solutions to problems.

Research projects are administered by the Office of Research Services and Innovation and are conducted by faculty experts and students. Students are the primary vehicle for the college’s transfer of knowledge to business and industry partners through applied research projects, work placements, and as skilled and knowledgeable graduates.

HOW WILL MY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (IP) BE HANDLED?

Any background IP that you bring into a research project remains completely owned by the individual or company.  If Durham College creates new IP jointly with the partner individual or company, an agreement will be negotiated with you to ensure fairness and equity.

HOW DO I KNOW THAT DURHAM COLLEGE WILL CONDUCT RESEARCH WITH INTEGRITY?

Durham College employees are bound by the college’s policies on Integrity in Research and Scholarship and Conflict of Interest.
