For faculty: How to put a material on reserve
Placing Items on Reserve for your Students
You may place books and articles on Reserve at any Durham College library for a three hour, one day or three day loan period. Simply fill in a form available at the circulation/service desk or use our online form (links provided below). You may place articles on Reserve at the Library which can be accessed through the library’s reserve catalogue in electronic format. Electronic reserves are subject to copyright compliance. You may place existing library materials on reserve, as well as your own personal materials. Any material placed on Reserve will be searchable in our online catalogue under the reserves menu tab by course information and instructor. Title searches are only possible through the standard search in the catalogue.
If you would like to order an item for reserve which is not a personal copy or is not in our collection, please refer your questions to our Reference Librarians. Please ensure that you also fill in a Reserve form (available at the Circulation/service desk or online) so that we are aware of the course information and length of Reserve loan you prefer. Once the item is ordered and processed it will be routed to the Reserve Collection and made available to your students. Allow at least six weeks for processing. If the item you require is time sensitive, our policy is to have your department purchase the title from the bookstore and bring in the personal copy to be placed on reserve.
According to copyright restrictions, as a general rule an instructor can place multiple copies of a book or article on reserve in an academic Library (1 copy per 30 students to a maximum of 5 for 150 students or more). For more information regarding copyright issues see the Policy section under the About the Library link on our website.
Please remind your students that Circulation/service desk staff will need the call number to retrieve the book.
