What is an Interlibrary Loan?

For Durham College Staff and Students

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is the process of requesting materials from other libraries. If the resource that you require is not available within the Durham College Library in either paper or electronic format, an Interlibrary Loan can be processed on your behalf. Most items are received within two weeks, but some items may take up to six weeks to arrive.

The loan period and conditions of use are determined by the library from which the material is borrowed. The timely return of borrowed material is essential to keeping our institution in good standing with other institutions so that they will continue to lend material to us. Failure to return materials by the due date will result in overdue fines. The daily fine on overdue ILL (Interlibrary Loan) material is $1.00 per day, per item. As well, failure to return materials on time may result in the suspension of borrowing privileges and delay the processing of additional requests. Failure to return a borrowed item may result in replacement charges to the borrower, as determined by the lending library.
