Learning skills workshops
SALS workshops are group instruction sessions facilitated by SALS staff members and held throughout the semester.
In-person workshops: As space is limited, you must register for the workshops you would like to attend. Registering for workshops must be done in person in SSB 204 (Oshawa) or Room 1-10 (Whitby).
Online workshops: There is no need to register for the online workshops.

BUILD YOUR MATH CONFIDENCE (ONLINE ONLY)
Have you ever wished you could be more comfortable working with mathematics? The Build Your Math Confidence workshop is designed to help you identify the cause of your discomfort and give you strategies for improving. Along the way, you will learn techniques to manage stress in the short term, set goals for yourself and increase your confidence as your ability improves.
KEYS TO SUCCESS
Taking the Keys to Success workshop will help you learn strategies to improve your academic experience. You will be introduced to the concept of how to study smarter, not harder, by understanding different learning styles and how to manage your time, take effective in-class notes, study efficiently and write better tests and exams. The time you spend now is time you’ll save later!
LEARNING STYLES (ONLINE ONLY)
Do you know your learning style? Are you a visual learner? Are you a tactile learner? Are you an auditory learner? Do you work best in the morning? The Learning Styles module will help identify your learning style and give you strategies that should help you learn more efficiently.
LISTENING AND NOTE-TAKING (ALSO AVAILABLE ONLINE)
The purpose of this workshop is to explore tips on becoming an active listener, enhancing note-taking skills during class and improving the use of class notes as study tools. A number of different note formats will be discussed.
MATURE LEARNER (ALSO AVAILABLE ONLINE)
Balancing family, school and work can be a demanding experience. The Mature Learner workshop was created to share tips to help you organize your life, prepare for your academic studies and locate resources you will need on campus.
This workshop discusses procrastination and helps students recognize how and why they procrastinate. Students will be introduced to strategies for minimizing procrastination, and students will be guided through a series of activities that result in a plan for avoiding and overcoming procrastination.
STUDY STRATEGIES (ALSO AVAILABLE ONLINE)
In this workshop, we begin by exploring various types of study behaviours and common distractions faced by students. We address the concept of procrastination and discuss ways to avoid it. Finally, we have a thorough look at the Dos and Don’ts of effective studying.
TEST AND EXAM PREPARATION (ALSO AVAILABLE ONLINE)
This workshop will provide tips and strategies to help you more effectively prepare for tests and exams. We will discuss techniques for writing multiple choice, true/false, and essay tests to help you improve your scores.
TIME MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATION (ALSO AVAILABLE ONLINE)
The Time Management workshop will help you start off your semester properly. You will learn numerous strategies to help you organize your time and become a more efficient student who has more free time and less stress.
