A doctor in the automotive industry
Got a stalled engine, squeaky brakes or an annoying light on the dash that just won’t turn off? No matter how hard you wish these problems won’t fix themselves. Automotive technicians diagnose car problems to provide you with the best, most cost-effective solution, so you can get back on the road and on with the important things in life.
Start date varies.
Classroom fee: $400 to $500 per level due at time of registration (advanced level apprentices are required to pay a nominal graduation fee at time of registration)
REGISTRATION
In order to register for an apprenticeship program at Durham College, you must have an Offer of Training letter from the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. A registered apprentice is employed in the trade and registered by his or her employer with the regional apprenticeship office.
CAREER PROFILE:
- Focus on engine and fuel systems, brakes, drivelines, suspension, air conditioning, electrical and electronic systems and/or diagnostic services;
- Employed by motor vehicle dealers, garages, service centres and automotive specialty shops;
- Inspect, diagnose, repair and service mechanical, electrical and electronic systems and components of cars, buses and trucks; and
- Perform major repair and replacement of mechanical units on newly assembled motor vehicles.

Financial help is available for apprentices – please note some of the ministry funding programs that may be available to you:
- Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (Levels 1 and 2 only) for Red Seal Trades;
- Apprenticeship Completion Bonus-Non-Red Seal Trades; and
- Pre-apprenticeship Training Program.
