Dental Hygiene In Orthodontics

This subject focuses on the role of the dental hygienist in the recognition of malocclusion, client preparation for orthodontic therapy and the maintenance of the client's oral and periodontal health during and after orthodontic treatment. Fixed and removable orthodontic appliances will be reviewed and periodontal aspects of adult orthodontics, regulatory responsibilities and the orthodontic practice environment will also be studied. Students will gain limited preclinical experience with associated clinical skills at an entry to practice level, such as placement and removal of brackets, bands, and arch wires on manikins.
