In this course, students complete the APCO Emergency Medical Dispatcher certification course designed by the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO). In this course, taught by a certified APCO trainer, students will learn how to answer calls for emergency medical service and properly prioritize a response. Students will also develop the knowledge and skills needed to convey proper pre-arrival instructions to the caller as required. This is a PASS or FAIL course. To receive a PASS for this course, students must meet the following criteria: receive a passing grade on class assignments, meet APCO attendance requirements, hold valid level-C CPR certification, score 90% on the practical exam, and achieve at least 80% on the final written exam. Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to receive a certificate of completion from the APCO Institute.
