OTA&PTA Fieldwork Placement

The purpose of this placement is to further develop students' emerging competence in the OTA & PTA role. This 200 hour placement may be arranged in acute care hospitals, complex continuing care, rehabilitation, specialized clinics or practice areas or long term care centres. This field experience provides the opportunity for students to develop their clinical and professional skills in a practice setting. Students are assessed using the National Fieldwork Evaluation Tool, which measures student competency areas in the OTA & PTA profession. Students are expected to demonstrate the "acquiring independence" to "approaching independence" rating for all OTA & PTA competencies during this placement. This placement is complemented by a seminar class which consolidates placement learning through facilitated sessions relating to professional regulatory bodies and associations, professional standards, ethics and qualities, in addition to problem based case application.
