ELEC Electronics 1

This unit of study is designed to provide the student with the basic knowledge of electronics required in industry. An introduction to the fundamental concepts of solid-state theory will be followed up with an in-depth look at common semiconductor devices and their practical uses. After the student has been introduced to the theoretical concepts of each device, a hands-on lab activity will be performed by the student to validate those theoretical concepts. Students will be instructed in the safe, effective use of common electrical metering devices which will be utilized during the completion of laboratory exercises. The course provides students with the opportunity to study series, parallel and series/parallel electrical circuits and connections in a practical, hands-on setting. Current industry soldering techniques will also be studied and performed. Students will also gain a comprehensive understanding of digital logic circuits.
