Addictions/Counselling Theory & Practice

Addictions Counselling: Theory & Practice is an advanced course that builds upon the knowledge and skills developed in several prerequisite courses. Students will be introduced to the different models of addiction, the different treatment methodologies derived from those models as well as current "best practices" usedwith clients who present with addiction related issues. The student will learn and demonstrate the ability to apply case management principles, including thecomponents of comprehensive clinical assessment, treatment matching, treatment planning and the use of relapse prevention strategies. The course is intended to not only assist the student in developing skills to effectively work withaddictions populations but also to hone their generic counseling skills and practices.
