Addiction II: Contemporary Addiction Treatment Strategies

This course expands on the theoretical knowledge developed in "Addictions I: Biopsychosocial Theories of Addiction Treatment" by exploring Process Addictions (also known as Behavioural Addictions), including evidence-based treatment interventions designed to address them. These will include Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavioural interventions, and Mindfulness-Based interventions. One of the primary areas of focus in the course will be the development of clinical skills in the use of Motivational Interviewing. Workshop formats will be used to practice these skills, culminating in the submission of a mock counselling video. Students will also be invited to participate in weekly in-class Mindfulness exercises.
