International students around campus

International Student Orientation

Join us Monday, January 2 at 9:30 a.m. in the Student Services Building, Room 116AB, for International Student Orientation at Durham College. This full day event will provide essential information for international students including how to:

  • Get your student identification card
  • Get your social insurance number
  • Work in Canada
  • Find local housing

Meet the team in the International office and fellow new and international students while getting to know the Oshawa campus. A delicious lunch will be served and there will be many prizes to win.

Please bring your passport and study permit with you. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us at confirmationinternational@durhamcollege.ca.

PROGRAM ORIENTATION

ALL CAMPUSES

Meet faculty, upper-year students and other first-year students in your program. This is a great opportunity to receive detailed program information from the people who have been through it before! All first-year students will receive a Dean’s Letter via email outlining the time and location of this event for their program.

Campus tours will be leaving from the Pit in the Gordon Willey building. Bring your timetable and have a student leader show you the best route to your classrooms!

The Student Association presents: Free Student Pancake Breakfast (Oshawa and Whitby campus, 9 to 10:30 a.m.)

The SA wants to kick off second semester with a delicious free pancake breakfast for students! Start your day the right way and come down to E.P. Taylor’s Lounge or Whitby campus main entrance at 9 a.m.

The SA will be bringing a blast from the past to the Whitby campus! We are bringing some classes, vintage video games for you all to enjoy!

Free Fitness Class Week (CRWC)

Monday, January 9 to Friday, January 13

Looking to get active and try something new this semester? Stop by the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre (CRWC) and try a free fitness class. Classes include Spin, Yoga, Pilates, Zumba and more. Active Living Challenge (CRWC)

Monday, January 9 to Sunday, February 12

Enter to win great prizes by getting active this winter! Simply pick-up an Active Living Challenge card from the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre (CRWC) main desk and complete 30-minute blocks of physical activity, tracking them on the card as you go. Participants have the opportunity to enter in weekly and grand prize draws based on the amount of physical activity they complete. Get active and win this winter!

The Student Association presents: Little Ray’s Reptiles (E.P. Taylor’s Lounge, 12 to 1 p.m.)

Tea Party Series – Family (South village and Simcoe Village Residence, 8 p.m.)

Meet with other residents and an RA for a facilitated discussion about family.

The Student Association presents: Deal or No Deal (E.P. Taylor’s Lounge, 12 to 2 p.m.)

Students will be randomly drawn to play 3 rounds of Deal or No Deal! Each student drawn will have the chance to win up to $1000.

The Student Association presents: Astronaut Chris Hadfield (CRWC Gyms 3 & 4, 6 to 7 p.m.)

Astronaut Chris Hadfield is coming to campus to give an inspirational talk! Tickets are going to sell out fast so don’t wait to purchase them. This event is only available for DC/UOIT students, alumni, and staff. You can purchase your tickets at any Tuck Shop location, however there will be limited quantity available. Please show your ticket, staff, alumni, or student card on entrance. 1 guest per student. Jungle Cat World is giving a presentation at E.P. Taylor’s on some of their animals. Students may have the opportunity to take pictures with some of the jungle animals they bring!

Women’s/Men’s Volleyball – Durham vs. Seneca (Gyms 1 & 2, women’s game 6 p.m., men’s game 8 p.m.)

Durham College takes on the Seneca Sting in OCAA volleyball action. Durham’s women’s team is 9-0 to start the year while the men’s team is nationally ranked. Don’t miss your chance to cheer on the Lords and win great prizes!

Come and join in on the fun by creating your own space-themed meditation jars.

We Got Game is coming to North Campus! We will be setting up 16 gaming units with a mix of X-box Ones, PS4s, and Wii Us. Students will also be able to test out PlayStation VRs!

Dodgeball South v. Simcoe (South village and Simcoe village residences, 5 p.m.)

South village residence took home gold in our annual game of capture the flag. Who will be bring home victory for their building in the South village vs. Simcoe village Dodgeball game?

The Student Association presents: Free Skate (Campus Ice Centre, 12 to 2 p.m.)

Head over to the Campus Ice Centre for a free student skate. The SA will be there giving away free swag and hot chocolate!
