DC rewarded for conserving energy

Durham College was rewarded for its ongoing commitment to sustainability on December 7 when it received a $30,660 donation through the saveONenergy program from Whitby Hydro for recent upgrades that reduce energy consumption at the Whitby campus.

The Whitby campus lighting retrofit project began in Summer 2012 and included the upgrading of lighting fixtures to current standards and the improvement of shop light levels. When the project was completed, more than 290 inefficient metal halide fixtures were removed and replaced with energy-efficient T5 fluorescent fixtures.

The project took six weeks to complete and was covered by one of the many saveONenergy incentive programs offered throughout Ontario as the provincial government targets energy conservation.
