Durham College revitalizing post-secondary education at Uxbridge Learning Site

On April 11, community supporters and local government and business partners joined members of the Durham College Board of Governors and college faculty, staff and students at the Uxbridge Learning Site as the college officially announced its commitment to revitalizing post-secondary education in the Township of Uxbridge.

Durham College President Don Lovisa was joined by Judy Robinson, vice-president, Academic, who shared the college’s plans to further its involvement in Uxbridge and its surrounding communities with the introduction of three full-time, one-year college certificate programs at the site this September. It will house one-year, college certificate programs in Business Fundamentals, General Arts and Science – Health Sciences Preparation and General Arts and Science – Business Preparation, in addition to Academic Upgrading

“Tonight I am happy to share some exciting news about our commitment to post-secondary education in the local community with the announcement that Durham College will officially launch a new and improved Uxbridge Learning Site this September,” said Robinson.

The new programs will join the academic upgrading and continuing education programming already offered at the Uxbridge Learning Site in addition to employment services. Ideally located in the heart of the township, close to local businesses and transit, the site will also offer modern classrooms and a fully equipped computer lab.

“We are hopeful the Uxbridge Learning Site will provide new opportunities for individuals wanting to explore potential careers paths; those looking at obtaining a post-secondary credential for the first time; or those who may not have considered post-secondary education in the past because of the need to travel to access programs and the time commitment involved in doing so,” added Robinson.

Located close to home for individuals living in Uxbridge and its surrounding communities, the site will provide local post-secondary learners with introductory-level college programming designed to act as stepping stones to further education at Durham College as well as other Canadian and international colleges and universities via diploma to degree pathways.

“The site will benefit both learners and the community and I’m delighted Durham College will continue to play an important role here – today and well into the future,” said Darrell Sewell, chair of the Durham College Board of Governors.
