Orange Shirt Day-Reconciliation workshop

This event is open to the entire campus community. Participants will create their own necklace based on the “Project of Heart” initiative that acknowledges the families and communities to whom those children belonged. In acknowledging the loss suffered by Aboriginal children, families and communities through the Indian Residential School experience, we also gain an understanding of the strength, wisdom and resilience of the traditional peoples of this land.
The necklace works as a form of reconciliation and provides a talking point for the person who wears it and lends to a conversation about residential school and a voice to the children who are no longer with us because of this experience.

Elder Shirley Williams will speak to her own experience in the residential school system and what reconciliation means to her.

Start time: 12:00 p.m.

End time: 1:00 p.m.

Date: September 29, 2017

Location: Aboriginal Student Centre, room 1264 in the Simcoe Building
