Project management is a carefully planned and organized approach to achieve a specific goal or end result. Typically this is a one-time task, such as construction of a building or implementing a new computer networking system. Project management includes developing a project plan, which includes defining project goals and objectives, specifying the tasks, how the goals will be achieved, the resources required, projected budgets, and timelines for completion. It also includes implementing the project plan and monitoring the tasks to be sure the project stays on budget, that is, to ensure the plan is being managed according to your plan. Project management usually follows major phases (with various titles for these phases), including a feasibility study, project planning, implementation, evaluation, and support/maintenance.
