Being the first person in your immediate family to attend a postsecondary institution may seem daunting. Without help from family members, you may not even know where to begin the college planning process, much less know what to expect once you get to college.
As a first generation student, your college education will
be a journey of discovery. You will have
a lot of hard work ahead of you, but in the end you will have discovered fields
that interest you and found new ways of thinking. Striking out into new territory, especially
if no one in your family has attended a post secondary institute before you,
can be a challenge.
Your past challenges and experiences have given you the strength to prepare you for college and don't be surprised if often your fellow students will notice and come to you for advice.
The Campus Health Centre is here to
help ease your anxiety of being a first generation college student.
Our multi-disciplanary staff are available to assist you with your
college experience. We look forward to supporting you and your family
in making your college career successful.
