Every student must pay tuition fees to attend Durham College. In addition, there are numerous ancillary and incidental fees you must pay. The fees listed below were applicable to the 2009-2010 academic year and are therefore subject to change. They should be used as a guideline for the 2010-2011 academic year until otherwise indicated.
Compulsory ancillary fees - Oshawa and Whitby campuses:
- Athletic complex membership fee: $31.84;
- Campus identification (ID) card: $15.92;
- Campus radio station (The Riot): $10.35;
- Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre: $151.60;
- Graduation fee (first-year students only): $31.37;
- Information Technology (IT) services: $183.44;
- Intercollegiate athletics: $32.96;
- Security (including 24-hour access to computer labs): $23.93;
- Student Assistance program: $6.37;
- Student Association dental plan*: $83.13;
- Student Association health plan*: $105.33;
- Student Centre: $51.29;
- Student Handbook: $5.31; and
- Universal Transit Pass (U-Pass): $120.
* The fees for health and dental coverage must be paid in advance. Students who do not need this coverage may request to opt out. Forms are available online through the Your SA website or at the Student Centre. Students applying to opt out are required to provide proof of medical/dental coverage.
Compulsory ancillary fees for part-time students will be charged on a prorated basis depending on the number of subjects you are taking.
International students are required to pay an additional $560 for medical coverage.
Additional fees:
- Academic appeal: $25;
- Certified copy of grade report: $5.10;
- Duplicate copies of diploma/certificate: $20.91;
- Grade appeal per subject: $25;
- Missed examination fee: $150 per course;
- Returned Payments/Insufficient funds: $25;
- T2202A duplicate/replacement: $6.12;
- Third-party correspondence, verification of registration or letter of attendance: $4.18; and
- Transcripts: $10.
You will also be responsible for additional tuition fees for each course taken in excess of your normal full-time course load for the appropriate program level.
Incidental fees
For certain programs, the college may levy an additional fee over and above tuition and compulsory ancillary fees for the learning materials and supplies you retain.. A list of these costs will be sent to you.
Fee deferral
If you are experiencing financial difficulties, you may request a deferment of fees. A minimum payment of $100 is required plus a deferral charge of $40. This option is not available to international students.
Payment by instalment administrative fee
You will be charged a $50.00 administrative fee for each semester in which you choose to pay your fees by instalment.
